Cahors, is built in a loop of the river and surrounded by rocky hills. With its well-known the Pont Valentré, a medieval fortress bridge over the river Lot and its famous wine castles in the hart of the vineyards (wine tasting!), the town is most certainly worth a visit.
In Cahors it is also nice to do some shopping.
In the surroundings of Cahors are lots of villages en small town to be discovered. Prayssac, with is weekly market every Friday lays between the vineyards.

 

puy-levequeroodschaduwPuy l’Evêque is a medieval town situated alongside the river Lot, is built against the rocks. The view on the Lot is magnificent.

Cazals, a beautiful village, with its market every Sunday morning, where many local products are to be sold, is only two steps away from Frayssinet-le-Gélat. Here you can also find the Musée de Vieilles Mécaniques. A museum with lots of old agricultural machinery. This is certainly worth a visit.

For those who love art have to visit the Musée Zadkine in Les Arques.

If you like to visit a large city for shopping or discover culture, Toulouse is a good choice to spend a day out.

 

sarlatroodschaduwrocamadourroodschaduwWithin a radius of about 50 km there’s a lot to been seen and done. Well-known and interesting places are for instance Sarlat, Rocamadour, St. Cirq Lapopie et Domme..

 

 

In the region there are several different castles to visit: Château de Bonaguil, Château de Milandes (de Josephine Baker), Château Castelnau and Château de Beynac et Cenac.

The nature varies a lot. There are several caves which are worth a visit, like le Gouffre de Padirac. This is a cave with an underground river.

Recreation

The fishermen among you can indulge  their passion in the rivers and the various lakes in the area. A fishing permit is required and can be bought at the Presse, the local book and newspaper store.

 

 

There are a lot of trails, the so called GR, or Grandes Randonnées, to walk or to cycle, in the region. The famous pilgrims walking trail to Santiago de Compostella, the GR652, crosses right through Frayssinet-le-Gélat!
Also in the surroundings are lots of possibilities for horseback riding.

If you like to play golf, near Belvès (about 25 km), you find 2 golf courses (18 en 9 holes). Another 9-holes golf course can be found in the nearby village St. Martin-le-Redon.
